Infocus Article - English The style and structure of Animal Farm are examined and the novel's place in the English tradition of Utopian pamphlets is discussed. Animal Farm is compared to Thomas More's Utopia, and Jonathan Swift's Gulliver's Travels,as works of social commentary. The discussion includes an examination ofAnimal Farm as a critique of Marxism, and suggests that Orwell's experiencein radio journalism during World War 2 accounts for the speed of the novel's composition, its clarity and conciseness and the universality of its appeal. pp.101-113.
