Description
This book contains the results of the Czechoslovakian investigations into the wetland studies of the "International Biological Programme (1965-1974). A team of ecologists investigated the shallow littoral ecosystems in two biogeographical regions of Central Europe with a comparison between the environmental characteristics and functioning of the biotic components in the Trebon basin, a UNESCO MAB biosphere reserve in Bohemia (Hercynian region), and in the Lednice fishponds, a State nature reserve in Moravia (Pannonian region). More general information includes structure, productivity, and production processes of the vegetation and its macrophytes and algae, decomposition processes and mineral nutrient regime in fishpond littorals, the role of certain animal populations, and management and conservation of fishpond littoral vegetation and waterfowl.
