Description
This book examines the causes and consequences of the unparalleled explosion in economic growth in Europe since the war. It reviews the relative performance of different countries in western and eastern Europe in the light of individual governments' policies and of underlying political, social, cultural, institutional and economic factors. It goes on to examine the ways in which the structure of European society on both sides of the Iron Curtain has in turn been altered by the economic changes which have taken place since 1945. Finally, the book turns to the future, posing the question whether this post-war growth pattern will continue, and, if so, what the consequences will be for European life.
