Transesophageal Echocardiography: A New Window to the Heart

Transesophageal echocardiography has become an important diagnostic method for cardiologists. It offers better resolution of images in certain cases (patients with endocarditis, prosthetic valves, central and peripheral embolism) and the distinct advantage of applicability during heart surgery. In the intensive care unit or in high risk patients during general anesthesia, it allows continuous monitoring and earlier detection of irregularities.
