Description
[From the book ]Produced by an interchurch multidisciplinary working party from the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland, this book examines human rights and responsibilities in the perspective of Christian ethics and the international human rights code, with special reference to the current troubles in Northern Ireland. The effects of terrorism on the fabric of society are described, minority grievances assessed, and options for minorities reviewed. Particular attention is devoted to the role of the security forces, the courts, and the prison system in Northern Ireland. There are more than forty recommendations, some addressed to the two governments, some to Roman Catholics and Protestants in Great Britain and the two parts of Ireland. It is not claimed that the adoption of these recommendations would solve basic political problems, but at least they would improve matters for all who want justice and peace in Northern Ireland.
